Blog Journal 10

As a teacher I will definitely be using surveys and excel in the classroom. Surveys are a fast and easy way to obtain opinions from your students. I would use a survey if I was teaching statistics because it is a great way to get anonymous results. Excel is a very beneficial tool because it allows teachers to calculate grades and come up with averages in a very simple and organized way. I would use it to keep track of my students homework, assignments, quizzes, and test grades. Excel would also be great for a statistics or any math class because it allows you to input data and analyze it. These tools are essential for all grade levels.
What I found most interesting when viewing my classmates blogs were how different and similar some of our views on technology are. For example, I saw that many of my peers really enjoyed tools like Diigo. Many believed that Diigo was resourceful and useful because of its annotating and bookmarking tools. Others really enjoyed including twitter into their future classrooms because of the networking benefits that come along with it. Overall, I found it really interesting how we all had somewhat different teaching styles and preferences.
The technology-related skill I want to learn is acquiring more website design skills. I feel like this skill would beneficial for me because I would like to have a classroom website where I can post all of the assignments my students need to do. Having website design skills will help me build a website that is appealing to the eye and is more advanced than regular websites. I will learn these skills by going to technological workshops or even watching tutorials online on website designing skills.
